As of June 2020, I am a professor emeritus of television and film studies and a Senior Fellow in the Blount Scholars Program at the University of Alabama and. To support my television courses, I wrote the textbook, <em><a title=\"Companion Website for Television: Critical Methods and Applications\" href=\"http:\/\/tvcrit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Television: Visual Storytelling and Screen Culture<\/a><\/em>\u2014now in its fifth edition (formerly titled, <em>Television: Critical Methods and Applications<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>My previous\u00a0book project, <em><a title=\"Television Style book.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tvstylebook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Television Style<\/a><\/em>, was published by Routledge in December 2009.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve edited one anthology, <em>Star Texts: Image and Performance in Film and Television<\/em>, and published articles on <em>Mad Men<\/em>,\u00a0<em>ER<\/em>, <em>Roseanne<\/em>, <em>Miami Vice<\/em>, <em>Imitation of Life<\/em>, soap opera, the sitcom, and other topics in journals such as <em>Cinema Journal<\/em>, <em>Journal of Film and Video<\/em>, and <em>Screen<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>For some time now I&#8217;ve been active in online educational resources for film\/TV studies. I created <a href=\"https:\/\/listserv.ua.edu\/cgi-bin\/wa?A0=SCREEN-L\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Screen-L<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.screensite.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ScreenSite<\/a>, two of the earliest Internet resources for film\/TV teachers\/students; and I served as the Society for Cinema and Media Studies&#8217; first information technology officer.
